A cat’s trust

I saw a theory a while ago and I wanted to share and see what you think.

It involves cats.

Yes, I know. I’m quickly becoming the crazy cat woman, but oddly enough I’m starting to embrace it. I’m bizarro girl. Might as well own it.

So this theory I wanted to talk about is that if a cat turns his back on you, it’s a sign of trust and proper cat etiquette.

Hang onto something. This gets a little nutty.

First of all, cats have rather incredible peripheral vision. If you ever look at a cat from the side, his eyes are not really set back in his head, like a human’s. In fact, you can sometimes actually see the eyeball protruding a little.

This is so a cat can know what’s around him at all times. It’s relatively difficult to sneak up on a cat in the wild, not only because of his line of sight, but also because of his hearing.

Cats want to see and know what’s going on around them at all times. So if a cat turns his back on you, it’s allegedly the ultimate sign of trust.

Additionally, when cats meet one another, they will, if the meeting goes well, do a little posterior sniffing, somewhat like their canine companions, but not nearly as enthusiastically.
